Development Manager
Engine Digital is seeking a process-driven and detail-oriented Development Manager to join our Vancouver-based studio.
Our team is focused on producing immersive digital marketing campaigns and platforms that span web, mobile, social, and experiential channels. We strive to connect our clients' brands with their consumers through clever and innovative user experiences that reach, engage, and convert visitors to customers.
In the role of Development Manager, you will work within our Technology Team providing practice leadership, project planning, resource management, and development of projects of various scale, form, and duration, utilizing a broad understanding and abilities with a range of technologies including PHP and ASP.NET. Reporting to the Technical Director, you will oversee projects from inception through delivery, ensuring all agency assignments are thoroughly planned, properly estimated, efficiently developed and delivered to a level of quality that beats the requirements defined in Discovery and Planning documentation.
You will use your eye for detail and obsession for clean, well composed code to manage technical resources throughout the build phase of a range of projects from dynamic websites to mobile web applications, playing a critical role in bringing the agency's strategy and creative to life. Working collaboratively with each of our practice areas, you will collaborate with your peers to assess project plans for feasibility while providing your own input from a technology perspective.
With significant experience leading large development initiatives, both architecting and engineering, the Development Manager will spend his/her time across various key areas of The Agency's business including project planning and strategy, estimation, and documentation. Working with our Producers, the Development Manager will play a critical role in budgeting, resourcing, and scheduling from a technology and development perspective. In addition to project work, the Development Manager will help to translate agency IP into products and reusable assets for efficiency and scalability of the agency's development capabilities and processes.
We're looking for a Development Manager with a proven track record for overseeing and assisting with the development of scalable and manageable systems while successfully directing a team of peers. The right individual for this role will possess clear leadership and communication skills, both spoken and writing with a history of developing positive relationship with colleagues, team members, and clients alike.
Requirements:
- Minimum 7 years experience in web development
- XHTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript, PHP, MySQL, ASP.NET, code frameworks and libraries
- Familiarity with Flash ActionScript AS2, AS3, and OOP programming methodologies
- MySQL, SQL Server 2000+, and hardware experience
- Familiarity with APIs, web services, and 3rd party platforms such as CMS, CRM, Blog Platforms, and Social Networks (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, etc.) enabling social media integration and scalability
- Experienced in developing detailed project plans for websites, web apps, mobile websites, mobile apps, and other forms of user experiences
- Experience working within a team setting preferably within a creative agency
- Experience with Agile software development
- History of successful schedule and budget management
- Solid trouble shooting, bug tracking, and quality assurance methodologies
- Understanding of / experience with unit testing and source code control
- Able to stay ahead of the curve with new and emerging technologies
- Computer Science degree/diploma or equivalent experience is preferred

This is not an entry-level position. We require an individual with a minimum of 7 years industry experience, working in an agency setting, and within a team.
